Athletes have been told that sports will open many door, particularly speaking of business and financial connections. Many athletes are sitting back and waiting for opportunities to hit them in the face. The reality is, those doors may stay locked if you do not pursue properly so what can any athlete do to ensure that your best foot forward?

Your Personal Story
Let’s start with a personal story about the origins of networking in my life. Our stories are what set us apart as individuals. They communicate who we are and the values we hold dear. They make it easier for people to connect with us.
Meet People Through Other Teammates or Coaches
Referrals do matter! Many of your teammates and coaches can link you with individuals in their circle that you need to meet for advancement.
Use Social Media Effectively
Seek out like-minded or key contacts you would like to know better and connect with them on social media without the pressure of meeting face to face right aways
Don't Ask For Anything
The idea of networking is to build rapport. Start out by asking questions that will give you information that will assist you in your sports career.
Ask For Advice
When you connect with people with experience, show them your resume and ask for improvement advice. The person that reviews your information will learn more about your sports history and possibly refer you to the right people.

Be Quick To Listen
The key to being a good conversationalist is being a good listener. If you have asked another person for advice or their opinion, make sure they have the opportunity to offer it and tell you.
The Follow Up Is Important
You must create a reason to keep the relationship going. Find at least two or three opportunities yearly to reconnect
