Athlete Strategy: Digital Marketing For Athletes

Updated: Jun 19, 2020

As an athlete, you are a brand. Your brand should explain who you are, what you stand for, the values you embrace, and the way in which you express those values. Some ruin their brands with bad choices while others use their brand to create lasting relationships that they can benefit from. Before you start digital marketing, which is what I want to talk about, make sure you have an impeccable brand. We will discuss building your brand in future blogs.

Digital marketing is the new way of marketing. It allows individuals to reach beyond a local audience to a global one, and connect with people right where they search for information. Digital marketing includes social networking, blogging, content marketing, video marketing, and more. Here are 4 things an athlete and/or sports professional should know to create exposure;

Focus On Engaging With Your Audience. Interact with your followers by telling stories, sharing videos, and responding to their comments

Share Relevant Content. Let your audience know your thoughts, interest, values, goals and more. Inspire the people who follow you

Be Consistent. Some post for a week and fade away for a month. Consistency will help you to stand out

Creativity Is Key. Grab the attention of your audience with a unique style. How you present information matters.

Considering the amount of time sports enthusiasts are spending on platforms, digital sports marketing is an ideal avenue for any brand (athlete). Individuals hoping to play sports in college are concerned with the lack of exposure because they want the scholarship opportunities. College athletes are focusing on their likeness because they can now receive compensation from third parties. Professional athletes are looking for endorsements deals.

Take advantage of digital marketing opportunities because it has benefits. It’s cost effective, can change as you go, and allows you to target an audience.
