Who Owns the Back End? Colorado's Top 10 High School DBs of 2026

6 min read

Every great secondary has a closer. In Colorado this fall, two of them finished 0.13 points apart.

Moise Toure of Denver East and Logan Singer of Regis Jesuit sit at the top of the 2026 Colorado DB Rankings, separated by less than the value of a single assisted tackle. Behind them is a group that covers every corner of the position: a nickel who broke up 16 passes in eight games, a junior safety with three defensive touchdowns, a Wyoming commit who led this group in tackles, an Air Force commit who also plays offense and special teams, and a freshman who found the end zone three times on defense.

This is the top 10 across every class, ranked by production score on the Athlete Strategy Defensive Back board. Every number below comes from an approved stat submission on the Colorado DB Rankings 2026, and every outside fact is linked at the bottom of the post. Use the interactive board to re-sort the top 10 by any stat, open each player's report card, put two DBs head to head, score a player of your own, and test yourself with the quiz.

How the board scores a DB

The production score rewards the plays that change games for a defensive back. Each interception is worth 10 points, each pass breakup 8, each defensive touchdown 6, each forced fumble 4, each fumble recovery 3, each sack 2, each tackle for loss 1.5, each solo tackle 2 and each assisted tackle 1. Interception return yards add 0.02 points per yard. The board also applies a classification adjustment to 4A totals.

Totals are from the regular season and come from approved stat submissions by coaches, players and parents. Ties go to the better per-game score.

The Top 10

1. Moise Toure, Denver East

5A · Senior · CB/S/Nickel · 6'5", 190 · Production score 261.49 (29.05 per game)

Moise Toure of Denver East in his No. 0 red home uniform

Nobody in the top 10 produced more per game. In nine regular-season games Toure produced 82 tackles (38 solo, 44 assisted), 9.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, 10 pass breakups, 3 interceptions for 112 return yards, 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.

At 6'5" he lined up at corner, safety and nickel, and his 29.05 points per game is the best rate in the top 10. His coach's submission lists a Division I offer from the University of South Dakota and notes that playoff games are not included in these totals.

2. Logan Singer, Regis Jesuit

5A · Senior · FS · 6'0", 170 · Production score 261.36 (26.14 per game)

Singer missed the top spot by 0.13 points. Five interceptions, 193 return yards and two defensive touchdowns made him the most dangerous ball hawk in the group, and he backed it up with 87 tackles (56 solo, 31 assisted), 6 pass breakups and 3 tackles for loss in 10 games.

The ball has found him before. As a junior on Sept. 26, 2025, he intercepted three passes in Regis Jesuit's 21-14 win at Mullen, and Sentinel Colorado reported that he led the state in interceptions at that point with six.

3. Cy White, Eaglecrest

5A · Senior · CB/Nickel · 5'8", 160 · Production score 211.50 (26.44 per game)

White broke up 16 passes in eight games, an average of two per game and the highest total in the top 10. He added an interception for 25 yards, 40 tackles (20 solo, 20 assisted), 6 tackles for loss and 2 sacks from the nickel spot.

His 26.44 points per game is the second-best rate in this group, ahead of Singer. His submission notes that he also plays running back and receiver.

4. Colt Jones, Regis Jesuit

5A · Junior · SS/FS · 6'1", 195 · Production score 203.34 (20.33 per game)

The only junior in the top 10. Jones scored three defensive touchdowns, tied for the most in the group, and returned his four interceptions for 192 yards. He added 73 tackles (45 solo, 28 assisted), 3 tackles for loss, 2 pass breakups and a fumble recovery in 10 games.

He and Singer give Regis Jesuit two of the top four DBs in the state. The two were already working together in that Mullen game in 2025, when Jones, then a sophomore, had one of the Raiders' five interceptions in the fourth quarter. This fall Regis Jesuit beat Grandview 24-21, according to High School On SI.

5. Karson McKenzie, Cherry Creek

5A · Senior · FS/SS · 6'0", 180 · Production score 201.24 (20.12 per game)

McKenzie led the top 10 with 89 tackles (50 solo, 39 assisted). He added 2 interceptions for 87 yards, 4 pass breakups, a forced fumble and 3 tackles for loss in 10 games.

He committed to Wyoming on April 6, 2026. The rankings page lists his On3 Industry rating at 82.00 and offers from Wyoming, New Mexico, Toledo and Portland State. Cherry Creek was 8-1 and No. 1 in the High School On SI Colorado Top 25 on Oct. 29.

6. Zach Johnston, Grandview

5A · Senior · S · 5'11", 185 · Production score 143.00 (14.30 per game)

Johnston is committed to Air Force. He intercepted four passes, broke up three more and made 50 tackles (23 solo, 27 assisted) with 4 tackles for loss in 10 games, all while playing as a three-way player for Grandview.

The speed is real. His submission lists a 10.49 in the 100 meters, and MaxPreps shows him running 10.70 in the final at the Stutler Twilight on April 25, 2025. Grandview was 7-2 and No. 15 in the High School On SI Top 25 on Oct. 29.

7. Corbin Cole, Cherokee Trail

5A · Senior · CB/FS · 6'0", 170 · Production score 140.56 (15.62 per game)

Cole is a corner who brings it in run support. He made 64 tackles (26 solo, 38 assisted) with 4 tackles for loss, intercepted 2 passes for 28 yards and broke up 3 more in nine games. His submission notes he missed one game with an injury.

8. JVIONTAE Willis Moore, Montbello

4A · Freshman · CB · 5'6", 150 · Production score 129.91

A freshman in the statewide top 10. Willis Moore intercepted four passes and scored three defensive touchdowns in nine games, tied with Colt Jones for the most in the group. He added 4 pass breakups and 35 tackles (11 solo, 24 assisted). He is the No. 1 freshman on the board.

9. Jon Twork, Ponderosa

4A · Senior · CB · 5'10", 160 · Production score 129.01

Twork broke up nine passes, intercepted one for 40 yards and forced a fumble, with 28 tackles (21 solo, 7 assisted) in nine games. His submission notes he played about three to four full games because of lopsided scores, for a Ponderosa team that was 9-0 and No. 7 in the High School On SI Top 25 on Oct. 29.

10. Jaxson Flores, Cherry Creek

5A · Senior · FS/SS · 6'0", 190 · Production score 127.00 (14.11 per game)

Flores made 71 tackles (46 solo, 25 assisted) and intercepted a pass in nine games in his first season at Cherry Creek. Pass breakups were not part of his submission, so his score is built on tackles.

He transferred from Grandview in January 2026. In 2025 he was first-team all-league at receiver and defensive back, and FCS Football Central reported his posted line of 50 tackles, 4 interceptions with 2 touchdowns, and 49 catches for 680 yards and 5 touchdowns. He holds offers from Northern Arizona and South Dakota.

What the board tells us

  • Regis Jesuit owns the deep middle. Singer and Jones give the Raiders two of the top four, with 9 interceptions and 5 defensive touchdowns between them.

  • Cherry Creek has two in the top 10. McKenzie and Flores combined for 160 tackles on the state's No. 1 team in the Oct. 29 High School On SI Top 25.

  • Grandview roots run deep. Johnston plays there now, and Flores played there in 2025 before transferring to Cherry Creek.

  • Every class has a voice. Eight seniors, one junior and one freshman made the top 10, and two of the ten play in 4A.

  • The ball hawks win. The top 10 combined for 27 interceptions and 8 defensive touchdowns.
